Retaining walls and access improved at 24 properties

The Portfolio Councillor for Human Settlements, Cllr Jean Safers and Ward Councillor for Ward16 Cllr Theresa Jeyi and an official from the Human Settlements Department visited the New Dawn Park Retaining walls project) last week. The project entailed the provision of retaining walls and improved access to properties and to channel and re-route run-off water during rainfall.

The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure approved funding for the construction of retaining walls at 155 identified erven in New Dawn Park. The project was implemented during May 2023 with the first 132 erven completed in October 2023. The remaining 24 erven were completed by 30 June 2024.

Each property was assessed by an engineer who provided a report with recommendations and solutions on how to mitigate to alleviate the problem.
