Eskom Loadshedding Update: 05 January 2024

Issued on behalf of Eskom by the George Municipality

Friday, 05 January 2024: Stage 3 loadshedding will be implemented today at 16:00 until 05:00 on Saturday as previously communicated, followed by Stage 1 loadshedding until 16:00. Thereafter, Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented from 16:00 until 05:00 on Sunday. Loadshedding will then be suspended from 05:00 until 16:00 on Sunday and Stage 1 loadshedding will resume from 16:00 until 05:00 on Monday. The lower stages of loadshedding are as a result of the return to service of some generation units in the past 48 hours, coupled with the anticipated lower weekend demand. Eskom will announce the outlook of the week ahead on Sunday and will communicate should any significant changes occur.

NOTICE is hereby given that the electricity supply will be interrupted on MONDAY 08 JANUARY 2024 FROM 09H00 TO 16H30 to do alterations to the electrical mains. Consumers are warned to treat the installation as being live for the full duration as the supply may be resumed at any time within the notified period.

Should circumstances prevent the work from being carried out during the abovementioned period; the work will be done on TUESDAY 09 JANUARY 2024 FROM 09H00 TO 16H30.

Update: Unexpected Power Outage in Parkdene

UPDATE: UNEXPECTED POWER OUTAGE IN PARKDENE

Earlier today an unexpected power outage was reported in Parkdene. Electricians were dispatched and discovered that the power outage was caused by vandalism. The repair work is in progress and the estimated time of repair is approximately 17:00.

Public Notice: All George library patrons are urged to PLEASE RETURN BOOKS ON LOAN

George Libraries would like to urge all library patrons to please return all books that they have on loan before or on the due date.

With SLIMS (Sita Library and Information Management System)fully functional and the availability of Impala for interlibrary loans, all library users are strongly encouraged to update their membership and to encourage other members of their families to join the library before schools re-open.  New library memberships are also accepted at all libraries for the OverDrive e-book system.

Library members with overdue library materials must also return these items as other patrons are waiting for specific titles to enhance their recreational, research, cultural and information needs.

George Municipality on High Alert in Response to Level 4 Disruptive Rain Warning

The George Municipality is on high alert following a Level 4 disruptive rain warning issued by the SA Weather report today. The warning predicts heavy rainfall over the Garden Route on Saturday and Sunday, 30 – 31 December 2023, with potential flooding and disruptions to essential services. Rainfall accumulation is expected to range from 35-60mm, with certain areas possibly experiencing up to 80mm.

The municipality has activated a comprehensive contingency plan that integrates various services to effectively respond to the anticipated disruptive rain. In light of this, clients utilizing George Municipality Sewerage Truck Services are urged to check septic and conservancy tank levels over the weekend. To prevent spillovers during potential floods, residents are advised to book a service by calling 044 801 9262/66. For Uniondale residents, please contact 044 752 1024, and for after-hours emergencies, call 044 801 6300.

Residents are strongly encouraged to remain vigilant and exercise caution. If on the road, avoid flooded areas and rivers, and be prepared to relocate to higher ground if necessary. Additionally, pet owners are reminded to ensure the safety of their animals during adverse weather conditions.

George on High Alert Following a Level 3 Disruptive Rain Warning

The SA Weather report has warned of a Level 3 disruptive rain leading to flooding of roads, low-lying bridges and formal/informal settlements is expected over the Overberg, Southern Cape, Winelands, and coastal areas of the Garden Route on Saturday and Sunday, 30 – 31 December 2023. The George Municipality is prepared with a contingency plan consisting of integrated services to respond to predicted disruptive rain.

The Municipality appeals to residents to be alert and cautious. If on the road, avoid flooded areas and rivers and be ready to move to higher ground, if necessary. Remember to keep pets safe.
