PUBLIC NOTICE: Control Burns required

The public is advised that George Fire Services will be undertaking Control Burns in and around the Garden Route Dam over the next month, subject to weather conditions including wind direction to avoid smoke over residential areas. These control burns must however take place to ensure the reduction of the fuel load of cleared alien vegetation. The public will be advised on the day of a Control Burn.
Fire Emergencies must be reported to 044 801 6311.

URGENT PUBLIC NOTICE: Weather Update for George area

The South African Weather Services has issued a Yellow Level 4 weather warning. Heavy rainfall is predicted for the George area this afternoon at approximately 16:00. The Garden Route including the George area is expected to receive rainfall of up to 60mm with possible flash flooding.

George Disaster Management Services are on standby to attend to any emergencies. The Municipality continue to monitor weather developments, and the public will be updated via George Municipal Social Media Channels.

Motorists are warned to drive with caution due to heavy rainfall and mist which is affecting visibility.

The public is advised to avoid walking/ and or swimming and parking vehicles at any of the beaches as they could be affected by storm surges.

UPGRADING OF THEMBALETHU BULK GRAVITY SEWER MAIN: PHASE 2

The upgrading of the bulk sewer network in Thembalethu will have some impact on the residents during the construction period from April 2024 to August 2024. The estimated construction duration is 5 months.

PROJECT: UPGRADING OF THEMBALETHU BULK GRAVITY SEWER MAIN: PHASE 2

DESCRIPTION:
The work consists of installing approximately 1060 meters of underground bulk gravity sewer, 200-315 mm diameter, uPVC class 34 pipes, including manholes and house connections, as well as associated reinstatements.

PROJECT PERIOD:
April 2024 to August 2024.

SERVICE DISRUPTION:
Interruptions can be expected during the connection of the existing infrastructure to the new infrastructure. Advance notification of planned temporary disruptions will be sent out via social media.

WORKING HOURS:
Working hours will be from 07h00 to 17h00 Mondays to Fridays.

IMPACT
The intended construction works will take place mainly on the boundaries of existing erven. The works will impact on residents and pedestrians. It is, however, important for the public to take notice of the intended works since there will be work done on the existing bulk sewer infrastructure. The work area will be fully closed to the public. No member of the public may access the construction area throughout the duration of the construction period. Access to properties will be managed between the contractor and the property occupants.

ACCESS TO SITE:
Access to the site will be strictly controlled. No member of the public will be allowed access to the construction area, in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Are you the rightful owner of an old scheme/ low cost home – we have your Title Deed

Property Management is in process of handing out all title deeds of old scheme and low cost housing properties in the George Municipal Area to the rightful owners. If you are the owner of an old scheme or low cost housing property and have not previously received your title deed from the Municipality, please visit our offices (with your identity document) at the Old Townhouse Building, behind the offices of Civil and Technical, C/o Market and York Streets, or alternatively call us on 044 801 9078 to confirm whether we have it in our possession. If the owner has passed away, the Executor is welcome to collect the title deed, with a copy of the Letter of Authority from Court and his / her identity document.

Eiendomsbestuur is in proses om alle titelaktes van ouskema en laekoste behuisingseiendomme in die George Munisipale area aan die regmatige eienaar uit te deel. As u die eienaar is van ‘n ouskema of laekoste behuisingseiendom, en nie voorheen u titelakte vanaf die Munisipaliteit ontvang het nie, word u versoek om ons kantore (met u identiteitsdokument) te besoek by die “Old Townhouse” gebou, agter die kantore van Siviel en Tegnies, h/v Mark- en Yorkstraat, of ons alternatief te kontak by 044 801 9078 om te bevestig of dit in ons besit is. THE GEORGE MUNICIPALITY WOULD LIKE TO INFORM ROAD USERS AND RESIDENTS
THAT SECTIONS OF NEWTON AND HOPE STREETS WILL BE CLOSED AS INDICATED.
THE ROAD CLOSURES ARE REQUIRED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF STORMWATER
CULVERTS WITHIN THE ROAD RESERVE.

MOTORISTS WILL BE REDIRECTED VIA MITCHELL AND FICHAT STREETS. THE
CONTRACTOR WILL LIAISE DIRECTLY WITH THE AFFECTED RESIDENTS IN ADVANCE
TO ARRANGE LOCAL ACCESS WHERE AND WHEN REQUIRED.

Severe weather warnings for damaging winds and rainfall remain in place for the George area, with the heavy rainfall predicted to land early hours of Monday 8 April (02:00). Accompanying high winds are expected 50-60km.

George Disaster Management Services is monitoring weather developments and the public will be updated via George Municipal Social Media Channels.

Motorists are warned to drive with caution due to heavy rainfall and mist which is affecting visibility.

A warning to refrain from walking/ and or swimming at any of the beaches remains in place. Avoid parking vehicles at the beach parking areas as they could be affected by storm surges.
