THE FOLLOWING AREAS WILL BE AFFECTED:
PORTION OF DENNEOORD – BERG STREET, WITLES AVENUE AND DARLING STREET.

NOTICE is hereby given that the electricity supply will be interrupted on SATURDAY, 13 APRIL 2024 FROM 09H00 TO 16H30 to do alterations to the electrical mains. Consumers are warned to treat the installation as being live for the full duration as the supply may be resumed at any time within the notified period.

Should circumstances prevent the work from being carried out during the abovementioned period; the work will be done on SATURDAY, 20 APRIL 2024 FROM 09H00 TO 16H30.

Update: Refuse Removal Notice


Refuse removal operations are ongoing as per the normal schedule. However, there are currently some backlogs in certain areas regarding the removal of green bags. We anticipate that these backlogs will be resolved by tomorrow, Friday, April 12, 2024. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Unexpected Power Outages in Parts of Wilderness

An unexpected power outage occurred at North Street, Lake Road, 7th, and 8th Avenues in Wilderness, following the tripping of Kleinkrantz Sub-Station. An 11kV cable was found to be damaged. An electrician is in the process of isolating and restoring power. The estimated time of repair is 45 minutes.

UPDATE 4: Impact of Heavy Rainfall in George Municipal Area

Gwaing Landfill Site reopened

Mop-up operations continue in George following floods in parts of George that were caused by the torrential downpours overnight. Wet and cold conditions will persist over the next few days but no further extreme rainfall is expected only intermittent drizzles. The weather should clear by this weekend.

Roads closed due to flooding
Wilderness – Die Vleie remains closed due to water levels. We continue to urge motorists to drive with caution during wet conditions.

Areas Flooded
So far, the municipality has issued 275 pieces of gunplas as a temporary relief to residents whose informal settlement structures were damaged by the floods. More gunplas requests are still being considered and issued.

Disruption to Service Delivery
Although the road into the Gwaing landfill Site is not 100% accessible, the landfill site has been reopened to the public. Motorists visiting the site must please drive with caution. Collection of garden waste has resumed. Some of our tippers have started with the collection this morning in Heather Park, Heatherlands, Glenbarrie and some have started with today’s areas (Denneoord).

UPGRADE OF GEORGE SOUTH STORMWATER INFRASTRUCTURE – WORK ON SATURDAYS

 

The residents of George South are advised that work on the George South stormwater infrastructure , currently only under construction during weekdays, will take place on Saturdays up until 30 July 2024. Working hours will be from 07h00 to 14h00. The additional working days are required to expedite the works.

Residents are reminded that the construction area remains fully closed to the public. No pedestrians, runners, cyclists or scholars may access the construction area throughout the duration of the construction period. Flag persons and temporary road signage must be adhered to at all times.

The Municipality apologises for any inconvenience and thanks all residents for their co-operation.
