UPDATE: ELECTRICIANS STILL BATTLING TO RESTORE POWER SUPPLY IN PARTS OF GEORGE

Electricians continue to restore power supply in parts of George following unexpected power outages that started last night.

The following areas’ power supply has been restored:

• Portion of Victoria Bay Heights (Another portion still off)
• Portion of Hansmoenskraal
• Gwaing Airport Road
• Parkdene

Electricians are still busy in Lawaaikamp. There are also additional single complaints that we have received from Wilderness Heights and Hoekwil.

PARTS OF GEORGE ARE EXPERIENCING UNEXPECTED POWER OUTAGES

Several areas in George are experienced power outages, following last night’s storm. Our electricians are out, attending to the outages. The following areas’ power supply is still off and receiving attention:

  • Gwaing Airport Road
  • Victoria Bay Heights
  • Ballotsview, Parkdene
  • Lawaaikamp
  • Hansmoeskraal

Wilderness Heights and Hoekwil were also affected but have been restored.

We are also aware off the streetlights that were off at Gusha Street since last night.

Public Notice: Municipal Public Accounts Committee – Online Session to discuss the Annual Report

MPAC will be available on TEAMS on Tuesday 15 March from 14h00 – 15h00  to receive inputs on the George Municipal Annual Report 2020/21.

MPAC Chairperson Cllr Johan Du Toit will be present together with MPAC, the Acting Municipal Manager Dr Michele Gratz and Directors.

NOTICE is hereby given that the electricity supply will be interrupted on TUESDAY 15 MARCH  2022  FROM  09H00 TO 16H30 for the purpose of doing alterations to the electrical mains.  Consumers are warned to treat the installation as being live for the full duration as the supply may be resumed at any time within the notified period.

Should circumstances prevent the work being carried out during the abovementioned period; the work will be done on WEDNESDAY 16 MARCH  2022 FROM  09H00 TO 16H30

George Library hosts Heeltyd Speeltyd pre-school for orientation

Heeltyd Speeltyd, a pre-school from the George area paid a visit to the GEORGE Library on 11 February 2022 for library orientation and a story hour session with Children’s Librarian, Garelene Muller of George Library. George Libraries had, for the month of February 2022, over 70 different events including story hours, book discussions, book sharing, Read-Aloud sessions as well as library orientation, information, and poetry sessions.

BUSINESS TRAINING OPPORTUNITY FOR SMME TOURISM BUSINESSES IN GEORGE

The George Municipality: Tourism Section is offering a free non -accredited business training opportunity for 15 small tourism businesses in George. A two-day business training course will be offered on the 30 -31 March 2022 at the George Municipality, Conference Hall. The training is aimed at Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs), in the Tourism Industry and the targeted audience is tourism businesses based in the rural communities in George. The workshop will give business owners the skills to help grow their business and offer them the opportunity to expand their businesses and become competitive in their field. They will learn skills to boost their business potential through this business training workshop.

ENTREPRENEURS WHO MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS WORKSHOP

  • South African citizen (Provide a copy of your ID).
  • Resident of George (Proof of address).
  • Registered Tourism Business (Provide proof of business registration).
  • Business in any tourism sector will qualify (Accommodation, transport, catering, attractions etc).
  • Existing Tourism SMME that has been in operation for 1-3 years (Provide a copy of your financial statements for the last operating year).
  • Provide a 2-3 page profile on your business and a motivation on why you want to make use of this training opportunity.
