Report water leaks and burst pipes to 044 801 9262/66 or after hours at 044 801 6300, as soon as you notice them.

Stage 3 load shedding will resume at 16:00 today until 05:00 on Tuesday. Thereafter, Stage 1 load shedding will be implemented until 16:00, followed by Stage 3 load shedding until 05:00 on Wednesday. This pattern will be implemented daily until further notice.

Update: Power supply has been partially restored to the affected areas

The power supply has been restored to George South and Groeneweide Park, including Eden Technical High School. The electricians are still busy with repairs to restore the power supply to the Provincial Housing, a small complex next to the Provincial Traffic Department. The estimated time of repair is to be communicated soon.

Unexpected Power Outage due to Cable Damage by a Contractor

A contractor damaged an 11kV cable causing a power outage in Groeneweide Park and George South. The damage was only reported this morning at 08:00 to the Municipality.

Portions of Groeneweide Park and George South are experiencing power outages.

Our electricians are in the process of restoring power supply to all affected areas, except for Eden Technical High School (MV cable damaged by their contractor) and a small portion of Provincial houses.

Update: Status of power outages in George South and Groeneweide Park

Groeneweide Park and a portion of George South, Bos-en-dal have been restored.
A big portion of George South has not yet been restored. Electricians are still testing last few cables. Once the testing has been done, the power supply will be restored.

George South and Groeneweide Park are experiencing unexpected power outages. High Voltage electricians are on site, testing the faulty cable network. Once the faulty cable has been identified, we should be able to restore power.

ROTATIONAL SWITCH ON AFTER LOADSHEDDING – reduce power to avoid network tripping

Consumers are reminded to PLEASE use electricity sparingly after power returns. Please do not switch high-usage equipment on immediately after Load shedding.

Consumers are urged to turn off high-usage equipment and where possible to not switch on appliances such as stoves and kettles for at least 30 minutes after load shedding is scheduled to return. This will reduce the risk of overload tripping on the network.

Reporting power outages
Please do not phone the after-hours number or the Electrotechnical Department to report that you have no power immediately after load shedding is scheduled to be lifted. Please be aware of the rotational switching on i.e. areas are switched on one by one and not all at the same time to avoid overloading the system. Please wait at least 30 minutes before reporting no power. The Electrotechnical Directorate will be aware of a possible substation trip that needs to be sorted out.
