SANRAL N2 traffic advisory

SANRAL N2 TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Issued by George Municipality on behalf of SANRAL

Lane closures for N2 upgrade between Kraaibosch and Touw River

Western Cape, 21 February 2024 – Lane closures will be in place on the N2 section 7 from 27 February 2024, for the upgrade between Kraaibosch and Touw River on the Garden Route, the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has announced.

For improved mobility and road safety, as well as to meet the demands of growing developments along the Garden Route, the existing N2 route and access roads will be upgraded by widening and/or reconstruction over the next 27 months.

Construction will be carried out in such a manner that two-way traffic will be maintained on part (half) of the road surface while work takes place on the remaining part of the road surface. However, necessary closures, over a maximum distance of 500m, could take place for short periods to ensure public safety, i.e., removal of vegetation or relocation of services which may endanger the traveling public.

“We appeal to road users to exercise caution, reduce speed and adhere to warning signs in the construction area and to be on the lookout for road construction workers at all times,” said David Le Cordeur, SANRAL’s Project Manager.

SANRAL apologises for any inconvenience caused. This is however a short-term inconvenience in the pursuit of long-term road safety upgrades, which will benefit all road users.

Consumers are reminded to use electricity sparingly after power returns, especially after a 4-hour Loadshedding slot

Please do not switch high-usage equipment on immediately after Load shedding. Consumers are urged to turn off high-usage equipment and where possible to not switch on appliances such as stoves and kettles for at least 30 minutes after load shedding. This will reduce the risk of overload tripping on the network and reduce our current high MVA spikes.

Reporting power outages

Please do not phone the after-hours number or the Electrotechnical Department to report that you have no power immediately after load shedding is scheduled to be lifted. Please be aware of the rotational switching on and wait at least 30 minutes before reporting no power. The directorate will be aware of a possible substation trip that needs to be sorted out.

Update: Haarlem Fires Contained

We are pleased to report that light rain has contributed to a decrease in temperatures and a reduction in fire intensity. As a result, the fire is now contained, with teams from the Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) fire and Working on Fire (WOF) remaining on-site to conduct mop-up operations and monitor the area throughout the night. The George firefighting team has safely returned to the station with all vehicles.

The George Municipality’s Municipal Manager, Dr Michele Gratz, commends the team for their exceptional work and unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety of communities and the protection of structures.
