Speaker of George Council, Cllr Sean Snyman, will be live on Eden FM and Heartbeat FM radio stations respectively next week to discuss the launch of Civic Education Awareness project on 16 and 17th of May.

The Civic Education Awareness Project is one of the key support programmes being rolled out to municipalities by the Public Participation Unit of the Western Cape Department of Local Government.. The main objective of the project is to empower communities by raising awareness of their rights and responsibilities insofar as municipal decision-making processes are concerned.

Please note that ABSA Bank clients may experience issues with payment to George Municipality via EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer).

ABSA Bank has recently corrected/updated their Public Recipients, therefore all ABSA account holders need to update their beneficiary status for George Municipality.

Please follow these steps to update George Municipality as a beneficiary:
1) Delete your current George Municipality beneficiary.
2) Create a new George Municipality beneficiary:
• by selecting “PAY A Bill (Absa listed beneficiary)” ,
• search for George Municipality as Institution name and click select,
• continue with filling in required information until transaction is complete.

NOTICE is hereby given that the electricity supply will be interrupted on THURSDAY 04 MAY 2023 FROM 14H00 TO 18H00 for the purpose of doing alterations to the electrical mains. Consumers are warned to treat the installation as being live for the full duration as the supply may be resumed at any time within the notified period.

Should circumstances prevent the work being carried out during the abovementioned period; the work will be done on FRIDAY 05 MAY 2023 FROM 14H00 TO 18H00.

UPDATE Extended Power Outage due to Vandalism and Theft

The following streets are affected by the continuing emergency repairs at Lavalia M24 Minisub:

Kaktus, Kapokblom, Kalosie, Portion Park, Portion Kalkontjie, Kanna, Kokerboom, Krismisroos, Karmelia, Katjiepiering and Kosmos Streets

Power could not be restored at 16:00 as previously communicated.

While reinstating electrical services. A design change had to be implemented to reinstate the electrical supply to meet occupational Health & Safety compliance.

The design change required the team to replace Medium Voltage (MV) underground bundle with MV underground cable. Therefore, an additional 5 hrs to the work. The new Estimated time for completion of repairs 22h00.

REPAIRS TO SLIP FAILURES AND UPGRADING OF STORMWATER AND ASSOCIATED SURFACING ON ROOIDRAAI ROAD

REPAIRS TO SLIP FAILURES AND UPGRADING OF STORMWATER AND ASSOCIATED SURFACING ON ROOIDRAAI ROAD

The repair to slip failures and upgrade of stormwater infrastructure and associated surfacing on Rooidraai Road, Herolds Bay, will have an impact on residents and road users for the period from the end of April 2023. The Phase 1 construction duration is estimated at 11 months.

PROJECT:
REPAIRS TO SLIP FAILURES AND UPGRADING OF STORMWATER AND SURFACING:
ROOIDRAAI ROAD: PHASE 1

DESCRIPTION:
Repairs to slip failures will be done. Stormwater infrastructure will be upgraded, and the existing block paving will be replaced. Existing waterlines will be relocated.

PROJECT PERIOD:
End April 2023 to February 2024

SERVICE DISRUPTION:
Municipal services may be disrupted during construction. Advance notification of planned temporary disruptions will be sent out via social media.

WORKING HOURS:
Working hours will be from 07h00 to 18h00 Mondays to Fridays and 07h00 – 14h00 on Saturdays as may be needed from time to time.

TRAFFIC IMPACT:
Caution needs to be exercised by residents, road users and pedestrians throughout the duration of the construction period. Adherence to flag persons, temporary road signage and markings will be required. The Road will be closed to the public, but access will be granted to residents living adjacent to the road.

ACCESS TO THE SITE:
Access to the site will be strictly controlled. Any member of the public who enters the site will have to comply with the relevant requirements in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
