Construction of satellite fire station in Wilderness going well

Construction of the satellite fire station in Wilderness, 14km outside George, is going well. George Chief Fire Officer Neels Barnard said construction was currently ahead of schedule and should be roof height by the end of the month (March 2021). “We look forward to serving Wilderness from a local base, which is currently being addressed from the main fire station in the George CBD.” Situated near the Caltex The Waves traffic circle on the N2, the station will ensure quick access and faster response times to road accidents and fires east of the Kaaimans River Bridge. The station is expected to be ready for occupation in July 2021 and will be manned around the clock by four firefighters.
Wilderness will be the municipality’s third satellite station in addition to Thembalethu and Uniondale.
