REHABILITATION OF A PORTION OF PROTEA STREET
Upgrading Will Impact Road Users From August 2024 to May 2025

PROTEA STREET: REHABILITATION PORTION 1 KM 0.0 TO KM 0.5
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
George Municipality is upgrading Protea Street (from Fern Street to Hibiscus Street) with associated works including universally accessible sidewalks and upgrading associated stormwater pipes and structures.
CONSTRUCTION PERIOD:
19 August 2024 – 30 May 2025
SERVICES DISRUPTION
Municipal services may be disrupted during this period due to construction activities. Whenever possible, advance notification of temporary disruptions will be sent out via social media.
WORKING HOURS:
Working hours will be from 07h00 to 18h00 Mondays to Fridays and 07h00 – 14h00 on Saturdays as may be needed from time to time.
TRAFFIC IMPACT:
Protea Steet will be constructed in demarcated half-width sections and will remain open for one-way traffic in a clockwise direction, which will be changed to an anti-clockwise direction approximately halfway through the contract. Construction preparation activities will commence on 19 August 2024.
Road users and pedestrians are advised to take extra care throughout the construction period and if possible, avoid using these streets to alleviate traffic disruptions. Adherence to temporary road signage and markings is required.

The George Municipality apologises for the inconvenience and appeals to road users to be patient and exercise caution during construction. Please look out for and adhere to temporary road signage and be aware of roadwork personnel. Details of further road upgrade work will be published as may be necessary.
