The Month of September is National Arbor Month

The Parks & Recreation Department will be planting trees on the 26th of September this year in commemoration of National Arbor Month. South Africa celebrates Arbor Week in the first week of September annually.

Arbor month is an opportune time to call on all South Africans to plant indigenous trees as a practical and symbolic gesture of sustainable environmental management.

The theme for Arbor Month for 2023 as declared by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment, is ‘’Forests and Health”. The George Municipality’s Environmental Services: Parks and Recreation department calls out all interested parties, organizations, etc. who would like to participate in the planting of trees to indicate their availability/interest.
