Strong action taken against Drunk Drivers
George Municipal Traffic Department this past weekend actioned a planned crackdown on drinking and driving as well as lawlessness on the roads of George. The George traffic department does not tolerate drunken driving on our roads and efforts will be intensified in terms of the Zero Tolerance Campaign.
Executive Mayor, Charles Standers who launched the Zero tolerance campaign in early December 2015 reiterated his plea to the communities of George to help the George Municipality keep George Safe. “One drink puts you over the limit and endangers your life and that of others. Think before you Drink and Drive,” he said. Traffic officers have been instructed to exercise zero tolerance insofar as drinking and driving is concerned.
During the crackdown which took place on Sunday 5th June from 14h00 to 21h00, 13 Traffic officers were on duty. A total of 11 arrests were made for drinking and driving, 1 for outstanding warrants and 35 summonses were issued for traffic offences.Last published 15 June 2016
