George Municipality held successful sportsday for disabled people
A successful Sports Day for people living with disabilities as part of the Municipality's Heritage Month Projects, “Starting a new heritage in sport development" took place at the Rosemoor Sportsgrounds last week.
Carpe Diem School and the Western Cape Assocation for Persons with disabilities took part in the day as well as people from the community. The George Municipality Sport Development section and Gender and Disability Section, Boland Blind Cricket, Eden Lions and Oppie Bol Foundation facilitated the different sport codes and helped make the day a successful event.
The Sport Development Section is mandated to facilitate and enable the participation of sport within the George Municipal boundaries and this mandate includes both able-bodied and persons living with disabilities. The section embarked on an accessibility to sport project and hosted a successful sporting code exhibition at the Conville Community Hall on 14 July 2018 in collaboration with Stellenbosch University's Parasport team. On 16 August 2018 the Municipality also partnered with Oppie Bol Foundation at their annual Charity Golf Day that took place at George Golf Course.
